The Head 01
The industrialized production system has led to a highly rigid pattern in the fashion industry today, both in terms of design and manufacturing.The excessive production and symbolized consumption patterns have resulted in significant material waste. With the advancement of the Information Age, I aim to use digital technology to provide new solutions for fashion sustainability.
So I have proposed a new digital fabrication system for innovative textile design: to generate parametric forms based on human body information and fabricating them into wearable products using integrated additive manufacturing. I hope to establish a deeper connection between individuals with their garments while expanding dimension of materials value.
The first part involves transforming data obtained from the physical human body into digital models through a parametric system.
Here is an example of a parametric generation system I built in Houdini. Using my head as the source of information and applying different algorithms I set, it generates a series of models corresponding to my head. “The Head 01” is one of them
The advantage of parametric design is a system can generate can infinite number of different models by adjusting different parameters. In other words, if we input data from different individuals, we can get different models corresponding to each person, and they have a consistent visual style.
