In the wake of the Industrial Revolution, excessive mechanized production resulted in considerable material waste. With the information age's ascent, Siyuan merges digital technologies with traditional crafts to provide novel sustainable solutions for the fashion industry.
Inspired by traditional textile craftsmanship, she introduced an avant-garde digital manufacturing system for innovative textile design. This system centralizes human body data to generate parametric forms, which are then crafted into wearable items through 3D printing. 'The Body 00' stands as the inaugural realization of this concept – a parametric model derived from Siyuan's own body and manifested using recycled fiber 3D printing.
This piece combines handcraft and digital technology in sustainable textile innovation. Siyuan developed a Laser Fiber 3D Printer. She hand-processes discarded recycled fabrics and yarns, turning them into short fibers, which are then mixed into unique colorful patterns. After blending with hot melt powder, they seamlessly fuse under specific laser exposure, creating a distinctive structure without chemical waste. The remaining printing materials can be recycled. This workflow seamlessly bridges the gap between handcraft and modern manufacturing. It ensures flawless execution of parametric design while preserving the essence of craftsmanship, evident in vibrant colors, diverse elasticity, and levitation features.
